Look for the sign of 'new' features!The IBSCC is a club made up of some of the most fanatical windsurfers you'll find east of Maui. Our club has over 100 members with members as far away as Texas. We are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, about 200 miles from the coast. Every year we schedule trips to Oregon, Hatteras, Wilmington, or Charleston. In addition, we have individuals within our club who enjoy traveling to really exotic locations. Recently, members traveled to Maui, Venezuela, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic and Lake Garda, Italy.
Locally, we sail on Lake Norman. Lake Norman has several sailing sites with Ramsey Creek Access in Cornelius being our primary launch site. Unfortunately, other sailing sites are somewhat difficult to find at Lake Norman. We enjoy approximately 20-30 short board days of sailing on Lake Norman annually. Sometimes we have 3.5 days and since Lake Norman has a nuclear power facility with discharge pipes near our launch sites we seldom have water temperatures below 55 degrees. Any of the members of the IBSCC will be glad to give you directions to the good launch sites.
I often receive emails from people interested in trying to learn to windsurf. Although our club doesn't formally offer lessons, there are several within the group who can give you a couple of hours of instruction for the price of a beer. If you would like to read up on the sport before attempting it there is a publication that put out a special edition for beginners. We have discontinued our monthly meetings for the time and are not collecting dues anymore. We are, however, collecting email addresses for 'spams' and updates.
